How do you play an Ace-King

When you get an Ace-King in no limit hold’em poker, you know you have a good starting hand. Suited Ace-king is even better. However, an Ace-King is just an Ace-King until you connect with something on the board. If you don’t get anything, you just end up with an Ace high.

Let us look into the things you need to consider when playing an Ace-King.

Basic strategy

When you get an Ace King it will still be a bit difficult to play when you miss the flop or if you are out of position. If you are such conditions, the best move will be to fold especially when you get some heavy betting on the table. It is difficult to play an Ace-King against multiple players.

Ace-King is actually a drawing hand. You need to improve this hand so you can win some showdown. Ace-King is has high potential of improving and be the best hand.

When you have a hand like this, you need to be aggressive pre-flop. Raises and continuation bets are excellent moves to take away the pot.

When you are up against players with short stacks, it will be to your advantage to play all in before the flop. Be careful when an opponent re-raises since most likely he is holding some cards that your cards might not be able to handle like kings or worse even aces.

You should feel the dynamics of the table when playing Ace-King. This will determine if you should continue with your push or back off a little.

Bluffing is a great way of duping opponents. But players should bluff just for the sake of it. Bluffing is an art and all the players do not have flair to carry it off with panache. Most of the time seasoned players play bluff or semi bluff which is away to move away from the obviousness of their game.

Avoid continue playing just because you have betted on it. The minute you realize that you lack a winning hand you should fold your game. This would help you losing more money and also you would not be called a reckless player on the poker table.

Errors and Irregularities in the Game

1. During the course of a button game, it is realized that the button was not placed properly or correctly during the previous round, the button should then be corrected in such a way that every player in the game gets a chance to take position during that round.
2. It is imperative for you to protect your hand during the course of the game at all times. This can be done with the help of your hands, chips or any other object that can be positioned on top of them. If you do not protect your hand, you have no excuse if it is fouled.
3. In case a card that has a back that is differently colored is discovered during the course of a hand, the game must be stopped and all the chips must be returned to the bettors. However, if a card with a differently colored back appears in the stub, the game continues as it is.
4. If during the course of the game, two cards are discovered that have the same suit and rank, all action is considered to be negated. In this case, all the chips are returned to the bettors.
5. If one of players is aware of the fact that the deck in question is defective, it is his job to make the other players conscious of this detail. If he tries to win the game by taking advantage of this defect, he will be debarred from getting a refund and his chips will be considered to be a part of the next deals wager.
6. If during the course of the game, a card is discovered face up, it will be considered to be meaningless. Therefore, the next card in the deck below that one will replace the meaningless card.
7. If joker appears during the game, it will be considered meaningless as well, in case the rules of the game say so. This card will then be replaced by another card that is below the joker. However, if the player who receives the joker card does not make it clear to the rest of the player, his hand will be considered to be a dead hand.
8. If a player continues to play a hand without giving due attention to every card in the hand, he/she will be considered to be holding an improper joker or even an irregular card.
9. In case there is a card, or more than one card that is missing from the playing deck, this does not mean that the results of the hand are canceled.
10. Before the game is initiated, in case the dealer deals an extra card to any of the player, that card is put back, that is, returned to the dealer who considers it to be a burn card.
11. In case during the game, a card is exposed because of a mistake on the part of the dealer, it is not up to the player to keep or reject that particular card. The game is continued on the basis of the rules of that particular game.
12. If a player drops a card, he has no other option but to continue the game with that card.

Playing Mind Games in No-Limit Hold’em

When playing a ring game of no limit hold’em poker, you will be needing psychological techniques and bluffing styles. You can only use them when you know what kind of opponents you are facing.

A few bluffs here and there might do good in a lower stake no limit hold’em. Once you play for the higher stakes where the buy in is at least $200, how you use mind games is very important. Read your opponents so you know how to play them:

• Fish – They play their hands and they will fold with the blink of an ey when you bet big. When they have good cards they might call for it but do not do something too scary for them or they may back down. They can be an easy catch if you know how to read them and they do not bluff much.
• Sheriff- They might know the ins and outs of poker but they will tend to think that you are bluffing and will call against your move.
• Weak-Tight. Like the fish, they maybe too careful when playing. They don’t want to lose their chips and will not be too quick betting on something good. You can bluff these guys and push them a bit but be careful with their possible traps in the long haul.
• Tight-Aggressive. These players are the generals of the field. Their strategies and tactics are forces to reckon with. Winning in a no limit game will primarily depend on how they read their opponents. You can bully them by playing strong against them. Change pace by playing like a fish or a sheriff and you might just catch them off guard and read their moves.
• Hyper-Aggressive. You will be hearing bets and raises all night with these players. It will be very hard to tell if they are just bluffing. You can try to raise them to test the waters but they are very dangerous. Do not let them know what you have and vary how you play your hands.
• Tilting. They will push all the chips in when they feel like it. On your side of the table, just relax and let them play their game. Just play your game and watch their chips disappear.
